[Sept. 3][Original] Dealing with Difficulties

Title: Dealing with Difficulties
Day/Theme: Sept. 3, 2009 "IT GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN, LIFE."
Series: Original (Navigator)
Character/Pairing: Marguerite, Janay, Will
Rating: G

It was rare moments like these when Janay was thankful for Marguerite's strict insistence on properly following protocols. Someone needed to keep the crew in line and she often felt too kind or too weak-willed to do so. Marguerite filled a vital place in the ship's crew. "Thank you, Lieutenant," the captain coolly expressed her agreement with the statements.

Linlei wilted under the combined pressure of the commanders, causing Priya to fight back a satisfied smirk. Someone had just gotten their well-deserved comeupance.

"Investigate the propulsion issue for me, will you, Mr. Yamamoto?" Captain Barrett prompted the young botanist.

"Certainly, Ma'am," he typed in a few quick commands, switching his display to show speed statistics and engine output. Leona leaned over to try her mind against the data as well. "Hmm," he tapped swiftly through several screens of information. "I don't see any obvious errors here, but we definitely are losing power. It's not just a read-out issue," he reported his findings.

Beside the captain, one of the comm links flashed red. She immediately opened the channel. As if on cue, the bridge staff were greeted by the voice of Will Beyer from engineering. "Bridge, this is Will- I'm down by the engine as we speak and we seem to be experiencing an unexpected power failure"

"As if there were any other kind," Linlei thought, rolling her eyes, as she continue to steer the drifting ship gently onward.

"Fortunately it's only the engine. All other systems appear to be operating within normal parameters."

"I see," the captain responded, "Thank you for the update. We were just about ready to contact you about the problem ourselves. You have impeccable timing, Mr. Beyer."

"Ha ha," he chuckled, nervous or embarrassed. Leona could almost imagine him turning red, standing down beside the engine and scratching the back of his head with a screwdriver. "You give me too much credit, Captain. Anyway, we're going to put all our manpower into fixing this thing as quickly as possible. I've already got Parsa and Jane down here and Brenna's coming off her break to help us. We'll keep you updated on any changes in status."

"Thank you, Mr. Beyer, that will be all."

"Okay, Ma'am. Beyer out."

The bridge grew quiet as everyone onboard took in this information.

"Now what?" Leona asked quietly.
