[August 19] [Tortall] Go On
Title: Go On
Day / Theme: August 19 -- there's a bird that nests inside you
Rating: G
Series: Tortall (post-Daughter of the Lioness)
Character: Aly, mention of Nawat and kids
Summary: Considering birds that are people and people that may end up being birds. Spoilers for Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen.
Notes: First fanfiction in about five years. Wow. ...I kind of like it. Title ripped off a Jack Johnson song that was relevant.
Aly can remember clear as day (clear as day to someone without the Sight, that is. To her it doesn’t make much of a difference) the first time she saw Nawat, at least Nawat as a human. The feather patterns under his skin (those are gone, now) and the strangeness which came with what they represented (it never quite went away). She can see both of those in her daughters, waxing and waning from moment to moment.
They will have to make a choice someday, she knows, just as their father did if from a rather different starting point. However they decide, it will probably take them away from her. Still every parent will see their children leave them; Aly knows this very well.
Her parents certainly did.
