[August 19] [Fullmetal Alchemist] Bright Ideas
Title: Bright Ideas
Day/Theme: August 19 - there's a bird that nests inside you
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character/Pairing:Ed and Al

At first, Ed didn’t pay much attention to the sound. It was only natural, especially during this time of the year.
It was a little too close, though. It had an oddly metallic resonance… And, now that he thought of it, Al had been suspiciously quiet for the past half hour or so.
He waited in silence for a few moments, just to see what happened. Then, sure enough –
Chirp.
“Al?” he asked sweetly. “Is there anything you would like to tell me about?”
“W-what? Of course not, brother! What makes you think that?”
Chirp.
“… Al.”
With a sigh, his brother removed his helmet so that Ed could peer inside. True enough, there was a tiny bird there. But that wasn’t the worst part.
“Huh? Is that…?” He paused for a moment, as he realized what was going on. Then he took a deep breath.
And then he yelled.
“It’s nesting! What were you thinking?!”
“Well, it looked so tiny… I couldn’t just throw it out…”
“And what did you plan to do? Not move at all until it lays eggs and they hatch?”
“… um.” To his credit, Al actually managed to sound apologetic. “I hadn’t thought so far ahead.”
“You didn’t think at all,” Ed muttered, rubbing his temples. It was unbelievable. Al was smart. He was a clever, practical person who was good at keeping a cool head even in extreme situations. So how was it possible that anything remotely cute managed to make him forget all about common sense?
“I guess we can’t keep it, then,” Al said sadly.
“Just. Do that bird a favor and put the nest on a tree or something.”
“Er, well… I can’t. Uh. Reach it.”
“Oh, fiiiiiine.”
Ed reached out to grab the nest – with his right arm, of course, so all that annoying pecking wouldn’t be a problem – and placed it on a nearby branch. The bird seemed quite content with that, at least once he stepped away.
It was actually kind of cute…
He shook his head and walk away without looking back. Really, his brother was going to turn him into such a softy one of these days.
