[August 13] [Original] Inattentiveness

Title: Inattentiveness
Day / Theme: August 13 -- in between the moon and you
Rating: PG
Series: Original (general kai'len)
Character: Jonathan the Thief
Summary: Things may seem to change but nothing truly changes, because it's not as if anyone noticed anyway.
Notes: Concerning the consequences of this. Cílnar are this world's fae. Also they are strange, and plot-important later.

It’s almost amazing how little people notice, or possibly how little people care. There were certain headlines about the disturbance in the sky (which meant the disappearance of the moon and all but one star, and Jonathan decided he was justified in having missed that one. Going back to finish it off was unthinkable, he thought) and the general consensus was that a kind of barrier, like permanent clouds, had been formed in the atmosphere. Certainly the morning after the sky had been storm-gray, and that never went away either, but even Jonathan wasn’t too sure whether it had been like that before.

A decade or so after, it got to the point where this was a staple of City, and no one cared what happened outside of City, if indeed there was anything there. That was once the last star had disappeared, but it was due more to special circumstances than to any specific dullness in human nature.

The lack of interest in the emptiness of the sky, however, certain Cílnar thought, was unforgivable; this despite the fact that they didn’t care much either.
