[August 12] [Original] Avoiding Consequences
Title: Avoiding Consequences
Rating: PG
Day / Theme: August 12 -- step out the front door like a ghost
Series: Original (LEC, pre-Era Two)
Character / Pairing: Alec, Alici, Mr., Mrs. Davorak
Summary: Alici leaving house. (Not home. Not ever home.)
Green. Means grass and means trees and means outside and means unsafe. This green means house though, and she supposes that would be okay.
Gray is this backpack and most of what she owns, actually, gray and black and white, she’s never noticed that before. She doesn’t own much nor does she want to keep much. Have to travel light. Food would be good, though, probably, and student’s ID, for the bus. Checking the grayed-out photo, her own face. She is nondescript and the picture does not resemble her much. Thumb over the name; it will suffice.
Steel-blue would be the vague panic when she hears wheels on gravel driveway. Feet in shoes, mental check that she has everything. Unimportant things left where they were. Fine.
Two different shades of gray: as close to opposites for her as things get. Coming in through the front door or out the back. Bicycle and away almost fast enough not to hear the call of “Alici? Hey, Alici?” That’s her brother.
- - -
Muted yellow, smell of nickel and dried oleander: no fear, no sadness. His parents’ faces and voices are so calm and empty that Alec wonders if the police officer will think they killed Alici themselves. No reaction to the speech about how most runaways come home or end up dead. No reaction to anything at all.
It’s just what happens to people who have been around Alici for too long.
