There were parts of (the world) Heaven that were quieter than others.

This might have surprised some people, if they had known (and if they had existed and been able to conceive of Heaven and also been able to visit it at some point). They might, though, have been more intrigued- or perhaps disturbed- by the overall sensation of white. Those there could have told them that there were many hues of white- the brightest for the highest ranks, important things, and duties that needed to be taken care of, with duller whites for lower ranks and those things that needed no immediate care at the time.

This was why, when he stepped out into the world proper, it almost blinded him with all its colours.
