[Sept 15] [Naruto] [Your eyes closed]

Done in honor of Kakashi's birthday today.

Title: Same Old, Same Old
Day/Theme: Sept 15/ Your eyes closed
Series: Naruto
Character/Pairing: Kakashi and Kurenai
Rating: G

"Close your eyes."

"I dunno Kurenai. Won't Asuma get jealous?"

"Just do it, Hatake."

There was the slightest sound of rustling before something small was pressed into his hand.

"Okay, open them."

Kakashi peered down at the small box in his palm, covered with colorfully patterned paper and a white bow. "If it was wrapped, why did I need to close my eyes? Or were you hiding it someplace... special?"

"Open it," she replied, tone indicating that her patience was thin. He decided to cut the banter and obey. With polite ceremony, he peeled off the paper and opened the soft hinged box inside.

"Oh!" he beamed. "It's a watch. ...Just like last year."

"This has a year's warranty, considering how fast you seem to conveniently break or lose them."

"How very practical of you."

"Happy Birthday, Kakashi."

"Thank you, Kurenai."

There was a civilized pause.

"Next year can I get a blue one?"

Authoress Notes

Today is Kakashi's birthday in the Naruto series, so I wanted to do something involving him. I wanted to do it, however, while still keeping my Kurenai-center challenge going. After the first few attempts, I began figuring that this theme was to difficult to write them both under. That is until I thought about this. It wrote itself after that.

I personally love the banter I create between Kakashi and Kurenai. To me, Kurenai doesn't seem the type to be swooned by the "hot shots", and I actually see her being a bit irritated with Kakashi's "irresponsible" attitude. So without any fascination interfering with dialog, and playing her more serious nature against Kakashi's loose and slightly mischievous one, the conversations really get interesting. =D (Plus, as a friend pointed out to me, there's an underlying tone of sexual tension that's created by my inner KakaKure fangirl.)

I can see Kurenai being the type that's always trying to correct other people's lesser habits--Hinata's shyness; Anko's debauchery; Asuma's smoking; Kakashi's lack of punctuality; etc. I love this idea mostly because she fails to succeed in actually fixing them, but nonetheless keeps trying. Sometimes makes you wonder which side can't take the hint.

Hope you enjoyed~!
