[July 27][Original] Falling Star

Title: Falling Star
Day/Theme: July 27, 2009 "when a star fell down a soul went up"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Ilekano/Sola, Bashir
Rating: PG

Ilekano knew his mistress had been watching the whole meeting, peeking around the columns in the back of his audience chamber to see what he and her son would say to one another. Although he did his utmost not to make the slightest move- a turn of his head or a flicker of his eyes in her direction- to alert Sola that he was aware of her, he couldn't help but "perform" a little for her. He straightened in his throne to his best, most regal posture and kept the growing boredom from his gaze as he listened to Bashir mangle out his mixture of requests and information. Head inquisitor seemed to have been a good match for the boy. It was the only office of such caliber that required no ability in public speaking. There was no way Bashir could manage public speaking. He could barely speak privately to his stepfather.

"Thank you," he dismissed the boy, "That will be fine." He even went to the trouble to smile benevolently. Bashir probably thought he was going quite mad- there was enough of that in the close relatives for it to be a believable circumstance after all. His stepson showed his shaken nerves at the nearly sweet expression by stumbling backwards slightly as he moved the requisite five steps away before turning his back to the emperor.

Ilekano was practically sure Sola was smiling at him by now. She worried at times if she had made the right decision in succumbing to him even though it had saved Bashir's life. She had even confided in him about this matter- how she wondered if there had been another way they could've kept their lives. If only she had left the burning fortress through the back way toward the Ghirans, if only she had turned Bashir over to some servant or soldier to save, if only she had been brave enough to try and refuse if only to see what happened. Ilekano wanted her to know that she had made the right decision- if only in his mind. He was glad to have her. Although she wasn't the only one, he loved her. He did. The defeat of Camwyn An Shirin had brought more than completion to his land- it had added another layer to his complex heart.

Sola was glad to see Ilekano treating Bashir so kindly, but where other matters were concerned she was not as convinced.
