Shadow of Doubt – part 1

The room is crowded. It’s the final game for the Pair Go tournament but Shindou finds a seat next to Waya near the back.
Waya leans close to whisper, “Touya and Suzuki-san are a little behind.”
Two old men sitting near Shindou make disapproving sounds but continue to talk to one another. “Good looking girl,” says one. “Those two would make a fine couple,” answers the other.
Shindou frowns.
The girl puts her hand on Touya’s shoulder. The game is won. Touya closes his eyes and in this Shindou’s reminded of Touya’s face… of another time…
Shindou leaves, saying nothing.

Author’s note:
Pair Go is a variation of the game where each opposing side consists of two players, usually a man and woman, who play alternating moves without consultation of the partner. There are several official Pair Go tournaments, one of which, the Ricoh Cup, awards a prize of 5 million Yen.
