[July 25][Original] Dance!

Title: Dance!
Day/Theme: July 25, 2009 "take my hand, hold your breath"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Saselia, Bashir
Rating: G

The music being played in the round plaza was meant to be danced to. Bashir could understand that much. The trio of musicians, with a lute, a guitar, and a tambourine, perched on the edge of the central fountain, plucking out a lively beat. Several older men sitting in front of the tavern clapped their hands in time with the music while a variety of locals of all ages danced around the fountain.

"Ooh, what a sight!" Saselia sighed happily. Bashir began to wonder if she had a romantic side he had never encountered before. The dreamy look on her face as her imagination rushed ahead to play out some delightful scenario reminded him of the way his mother looked at the older emperor or the way Ofika smiled to herself while reading old romances from the palace library. But Saselia's look lacked the bittersweet tinge of his mother's creased brow or the faraway gaze that Ofika's eyes took on now and then as she retreated deep into the depths of her own mind. Saselia's fantasies were as real and present as all her other thoughts.

Without even bothering to warn him, she reached back and grabbed his hand, assuming all permission had been given with the promise that he would dance, and pulled him into the swirling melee of spinning skirts, whirling flower coronets, and music bubbling out so fast his head was beginning to spin. He had no formal training in dancing the popular dances of the court, but they were slow and stately compared to this festival whirlwind of jubilnat, unchoreographed movement. It was all he could do to keep from holding his breath. Saselia was having fun, but Bashir was not in his element.
