He could have told Song Qingshu that the younger man was an utter fool, and not because he had fallen so hard for a pretty face he forsook all reason, or because his infatuation constantly got the better of him. Song Qingshu's biggest mistake was that he rarely bothered to consider patience and subtlety, two traits that might have won Zhou Zhiruo over. Just as well; the young miss from Emei belonged to a breed that was shrewd enough to show only bits of her vast intelligence, and that only when necessary. If she ever consented to give her heart to Song Qingshu, she might transmit some of her cleverness to him, and what good would Song Qingshu be to Chen Youliang then? So let Song Qingshu yearn endlessly for Zhou Zhiruo, and the balance of the world would not merely be maintained, but renewed.
