[July 21][Original] Imperial Dreams
Title: Imperial Dreams
Day/Theme: July 21, 2009 "I'd rather sleep my whole life away"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Tiokihawa, Bashir
Rating: G
The crowning of two co-emperors was not without precedent in Silesia, but when Ilekano and Tiokihawa had succeeded their late father jointly, it had begun the first rule of this kind for quite some time. It was all the result of a scheme Ilekano had concocted with his father to prevent a force of rebellious nobles from springing up in support of Tiokihawa's claim to the throne the second he made a move they didn't like (or sooner, knowing the politics of the Silesian empire). So Tiokihawa "ruled" as well. Though all he actually seemed to rule was his lesser court and his smaller palace.
"I had an amazing dream the other night," the younger emperor announced to his courtiers that morning. Bashir fidgeted in his far corner of the audience chamber, wondering if all the pronouncements of Blessed Tiokihawa were this lame. "It was better than anything even I, an emperor, have ever experience! So, why am I telling you this?" he asked rhetorically to set up his request, leaning forward in his shimmering throne. "Because I want to have that dream again! Anyone who had a method that will allow me to revisit that dream will be handsomely rewarded!" He banged his palms down on the arms of the throne for emphasis, causing the entire seat, from the gold leaf-coated legs to the long peacock feathers that fanned out behind him, to shudder with the blows.
His assorted sycophants and other hangers-on chattered thoughtfully over the subject for a while, but gradually ran out of things to say about the rather narrow topic and began to move on to other subjects. Bashir stumbled about trying to find Urbahn without drawing too much attention to himself. He hadn't been able to single out the scriptural scholar during his earlier scan of the room, but that didn't mean Urbahn wasn't there.
After a bit of spirited discussion with his first councilor (known similarly to Ilekano's councilor as the "First Suggester" because of his tendency to prod the younger emperor into action), Tiokihawa settled back into his throne and closed his eyes. Bashir appreciated the extra cover for his attempts to contact Urbahn without being drawn into some endless circling discussion with his uncle.
Within in the confines of his own imagination the younger emperor found himself with all the things he wished were his- talent that would make his brother respect him, a daughter who shared his good health, and a son of his own to succeed him as his heir. What a perfect world one could dream of. What a shame it would never leave his mind.
