[September 12] [Bleach] Steps

It was late by the time he got around to signing off on all the day’s paperwork, his brush darting in quick, methodical strokes on report after report.
Footsteps outside the screen door to his study made him pause for a moment.
Small, cold hands slid under his hair and thumbs kneaded the back of his neck. “Byakuya-sama,” she said softly, head bowed against his shoulder – he could feel her breath on the fabric there – with iron intent.
He resumed his work as Rukia settled on her heels next to him, their knees touching for a second, and he was rather distantly surprised to find that the air felt lighter.
