Sakura never showed tiredness at the end of the day, no matter how long or eventful it had been. Even so, she would unfailingly obey her parents when they said, "Bedtime!" in a cheery tone that she would, during her teenage years, associate with quilt blankets and drunken, bawdy laughter from down the hall. (As soon as she was allowed to stay up past nine o'clock, she was also welcome to visit the source of the noise, and equally welcome to walk away any time) Her parents often sat by her bed, waiting for her to fall asleep ("Daddy, go play some RPG or tic-tac-toe instead," she wanted to say, and never did), and would not leave until they were certain she was snug and warm. She also knew that they trusted her to clobber senseless any unsuspecting monster that made the mistake of intruding on her dreams. This made her wonder, on occasion, whether they were, in fact, her real parents.
