The Abyss

<No!  Noooooooo!>

“How could you do this to me?” David pleads. Rachel feels sick to her stomach.

Suddenly, he’s calm. “You wanted this. You wanted to watch me suffer. You wanted to kill me.” He spits every syllable at her, daring her to protest.

I had to do what I thought was right, she wants to say. No matter what. “So did I,” he says quietly. “How can you judge me?”

Rachel wakes up gasping. She can still hear his voice echoing in her head.

I’m already dead, Rachel. And I’ll be haunting you for the rest of your life.
