“I don’t like it,” Myrne says peevishly, tugging at the dress. It’s finer than what she’s used to, and he knows she won’t wear it much- they’ll have to put it away once they’re back on board, and make sure the griffins can’t get in (they’re incredibly nosy creatures, he’s found, sticking their beaks into everything they can), and it’s really too fine to wear around the griffins. “How do people move in these?”

“It looks much nicer than your usual clothes,” Kiernan says, and she does look almost sweet in this. It’s a pity grumpy is almost her default expression. “People will appreciate this more at parties and the like. And I’m afraid I don’t know, I’ve never been much for wearing dresses. I think they get used to them.”

“Well, if it helps,” Myrne says, giving the dress one last tug. She looks up at Kiernan and folds her arms. “I hope you don’t think I intend to get used to these.”

“I would hope that you would never get used to anything you didn’t want to,” Kiernan says, and he is entirely honest.
