She ran the brush through her hair, counting silently. 86. 87. 88. 89.
He puts his hands on her shoulders and says nothing, and her bones are sharp and fragile underneath his hands. She trembles too, like a bird. He presses a kiss to the back of her neck, inhaling the scent of her and the salty aftertaste, and he loves her for her deception.
She sets the brush down carefully and smoothes her hands against the fabric that covers her thin knees before she turns around and slides over his leg and she stops his mouth with her fingers, her nails small and pointed.
