Day/Theme: Mar 30 / a fading memory is slowly drawn towards the wind
Series: Junjou Romantica
Character/Pairing: Romantica
“Hey, Takahashi-san, aren't you seeing anyone?”
That kind of statement made his heart throb. It had been five years since he had been in a relationship. He had been 21 when he had ended a long time relationship with Usami Akihiko. It hadn't been an easy thing to do, but he had managed to get away from what he deemed an 'unhealthy relationship'. He looked at his coworker, smiling slightly.
“Ah, no... I'm not.”
Then why?
Why did it still hurt to say those words?
–
Misaki unlocked the door to his apartment, peering inside. It was small, but comfortable. He kept it up and well, so it's all that mattered. He took off his shoes, placing them in their usual spot, then placed his coat on the rack. He instantly noticed a small flashing red light. His answering machine beeped. His heart skipped a beat. Surely it wouldn't be Usagi... he had stopped calling him 3 years ago. He pressed the button, heart dropping slightly as he heard his brother's cheerful voice. “Misaki! Someone has something to say.”
A young voice piped in “Uncle Misaki! I hope you come to my 6th birthday party! Remember, I'll be six!”
Takahiro laughed. “Hope to see you at my place on Friday. Take care Misaki.”
Misaki smiled in spite of himself. Mahiro was growing up so fast. Perhaps he ought to settle down with some girl and have a kid or two... the voice in the next message made him rethink that thought.
The unmistakeable rumble of his voice wafted out of the speakers... “Misaki? Sorry for calling you... I found a couple of things you left here. I thought I'd let you know... goodbye.”
Misaki let out a shuddered sigh, leaning against the wall as he stared down at the answering machine. Why had that man sound so gentle in his message? Why did he bother with that call? Oh why was Usami Akihiko still in love with him, 5 years after they've already broken up? He reached to delete the message, only to hit the repeat button.
–
“Happy Birthday Mahiro!”
Mahiro scrunched his nose up. “You're late, Uncle Misaki!”
Misaki laughed. “I'm sorry, I just had to pick up the... birthday cake!”
“Yay!”
Manami came over, holding the two-year-old Chihaya. She smiled at Misaki. “Thank you Misaki-kun. You can put the cake on the table”
Misaki placed on the table and looked back at Manami“Ah, no problem. Where's Niichan?”
“In the living room.”
Misaki walked into the living room, getting a hug from Takahiro. Takahiro pulled away from him and led him over to the presents, allowing to put his present in the pile. Misaki laughed as Mahiro ran over, clutching onto his leg. Misaki smiled happily. It was such a warm family atmosphere...
–
Usami Akihiko looked at the box. He had put some of the things Misaki hadn't ever bothered to come get when he moved out into the box and he had hoped the man would have called him and came and picked them up. The longer they lingered here, the more Usami didn't want to let go. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, glancing at the smaller box beside it. He had been invited to Takahiro's son's birthday party... again. He had been invited the past five years, but he had usually told Takahiro he couldn't make it. Seeing Misaki was oddly painful. But this year, he hadn't phoned Takahiro... but Takahiro had made the annual call. He sighed.
Why not go? He grabbed both boxes and made his way to the car. He got into the car and put it into drive. Perhaps tonight, he'd face the memory that had left him.
–
“Happy birthday, dear Mahiro! Happy Birthday to you!”
Mahiro blew out the candles, laughing as Chihaya squealed at her brother. “Niichan! Niichan!”
Mahiro smiled up at Misaki. “Cut the cake, Uncle Misaki!”
“Oh? I get the honor this year?”
Mahiro grinned. “Yup!”
A knock sounded through the house, Misaki grinned. “I'll get it.”
Takahiro laughed. “I'll get it Misaki... it's my house, you're a guest.”
Misaki laughed, cutting the cake. Takahiro answered the door. Takahiro brightened. “Usagi! It's such a nice surprise.”
Misaki froze up. He slowly looked toward the door to see Usami Akihiko standing there. The man walked in, carrying two boxes. He handed Mahiro the smaller box, who glared up at him. Mahiro had never liked Usami. Usami looked at Misaki, their eyes connected. Usami spoke first.
“Can I speak with Misaki, alone?”
Takahiro blinked. “It's up to Misaki... Misaki?”
Misaki licked his lips nervously. He found the strength to move his legs. “I suppose...”
Misaki followed Usami out the door and out of the apartment complex. Usami turned toward him, the wind blew past them and Misaki shivered. Usami held out the box. “I have some of your old things here.”
“Oh?”
Usami lowered the box, eying Misaki. Misaki licked his lips and kept eye contact with Usami. Being in the presence of this man made him aware of his senses. He took a step back as Usami took one forward. Usami stopped and sighed. “Misaki...”
“...”
“I...”
“Don't!”
Usami frowned. “What happened, Misaki? What did I do?”
“You didn't do anything.”
Usami dropped the box and swiftly went to Misaki's side, taking the man's chin in his fingers. “Then what? What happened? You told me you loved me once.”
Misaki felt tears brimming in the corner of his eyes. “... things grew complicated.”
Usami growled. “What? How was it complicated!?”
“We're two guys!”
“You're still hung up on that?”
Misaki swung at Usami, making the man back up. “We live in two different worlds, Usagi-san! I am an office worker... and you! You, you have to worry how the public views you! What do you think everyone will say when you show off your gay lover, huh? Media talks... the world talks!! Your father told me the day I understood how much of burden I am on you is the day I become an adult... well, here I am!! I'm an adult!”
Misaki gasped as Usami kissed him, plunging his tongue into his mouth. Misaki trembled. He was still in love this man.... He wrapped his arms around Usami's shoulders, feeling the man shift against him, pressing his groin into Misaki's.
Misaki pulled away, feeling Usami move on to his neck. “U-Usagi-san, stop.”
“No, not after I find out you still love me.”
“I didn't say that.”
“You don't have to.”
“What if I don't!?”
Usami pulled away. “Say it.”
Misaki flushed. “W-What?”
“Tell me you love me.”
“Usagi-san...”
“I love you, Misaki.”
Misaki shifted. “I should return to the party...”
“You're brother will understand.”
Misaki shivered. Truth be told, his brother probably would eventually understand. He looked up at Usami. “Usagi-san...”
Usami smiled, kissing Misaki again. Love was weird... the two of them hadn't been together for five years... yet seeing each other for a moment, they suddenly felt reconnected. Usami pulled away, touching what he thought would have become a memory before him, sweeping his hand through his hair. “Ah, Misaki. I will make love to you tonight.”
Misaki flushed, rolling his eyes. “Can I please go back to the party?”
Usami smiled. “As long as I can make love to you tonight.”
Misaki snorted. “Do you stop, even when I ask?”
Usami laughed, giving Misaki another kiss as they made their way back to the party... finally a couple again.
(THE END)
I was running out of time! So this one didn't come out as good as I would have liked ;w; buuut it's better than nothing!
