[March 10] [Coraline] Why Buttons?
Title: Why Buttons?
Day/Theme: 10. eyes I dare not meet in dreams
Series: Coraline
Character/Pairing: Cat, Other Mother or Beldam
Rating: PG
Excerpt: "You know, I always wanted to know." The cat said, slinking around her, disappearing from her heels, reappearing from atop the fabricated kitchen counter.
Her brows knit, giving the impression her buttons narrow.
"Why buttons?" He asks smoothly.
The Beldam is seething and silent. The Cat goes: "hmm", gathering hypothesis.
"Is it to lure children? Like a button eyed stuffed animal?" She smiles, he is wrong.
"Or perhaps. . .you have buttons because you're trapped in your own little world."
Her lips are suddenly thin as wire.
".. .that's why even if the door is unlocked, you can't go through."
Her lips don't seem to be there at all, as if she chewed them up in frustration.
"You could go through, but then you would be blind. Not to mention stick out like a fish out of water." The cat's eyes smirk and he licks his mouth at the brief subject of aquatic cuisine.
"Who did it to you?" He says it only to drive the needle further.
"Not very talkative. Well, I have to go. It's un-catlike to be in the same place as long as I have." He hops off the counter, his feet don't land on the ground, his paws seep through the kitchen tiles and the floor quicksands him.
With a 'pop' he has crossed the other side. His easy retreat pour lemons juice on the Beldam's already agitated wound.
