[Mar 9] [Junjou Romantica] A Teenage Confession
Title: A Teenage Confession
Author:
deecherrywolf
Day/Theme: Mar 09 / awkward as a wound on my bones
Series: Junjou Romantica
Character/Pairing: one-sided Hiroki/Usami
It had been an ordinary day for the seventeen-year-old Kamijou Hiroki. So far all of his classes had gone smoothly. The teachers loved his passion for learning, but many feared his temper... and the same went for the student body. He was one person most people didn't want to hang around. He took his lunch, some curry bread, melon bread, and french bread he had scored at the lunch hall, and found his friend, Usami Akihiko. Akihiko generally sat at the same spot every lunch hour. In front of a large tree with large branches, giving enough shade in this cruel late summer weather.
Hiroki handed him some of the bread. “Want any?”
Akihiko took it, not looking up from his writing. Hiroki sat beside him, opening up his bread, taking a bite out of it. He'd known Akihiko for a long time now... and the longer he stayed with him, the more he wanted to know about the young man. There was no way looking around it, he was in love with his best friend. His best male friend... he just wasn't sure how to tell the quiet young man. He blinked, realizing a party member was missing.
“Where's Takahiro?”
Akihiko paused in his writing. “...he's out sick.”
“Oh. Something serious?”
“No, just a cold.”
Hiroki raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Hmm... I bet he's just faking it... so he can spend time with his little brother. He always is going on and on about him... so they probably are both skipping today.”
“Hiroki...”
The sound of his voice sent shivers down his spine. Should he apologize? He had just been joking. He didn't want Akihiko being mad at him and surely his dear friend knew when he was being sarcastic, they've known each other for seven years now! But the look on Akihiko's face wasn't one of anger... the man looked lost. Now Hiroki was interested. “What is it?”
Akihiko looked up at the sky, causing Hiroki to look too. They watched the skyline as clouds danced by. Then Akihiko let out a shuddered breath. “I think... I'm in love.”
Hiroki nearly felt his heart stop. Could...? Was it possible...? Hiroki could feel the blush working it's way on to his skin, but instead he merely continued to glance at the sky, then muttered. “Oh? Who is she?”
Safe route, of course. Hiroki looked at Akihiko out of the corner of his eye, seeing Akihiko thumbing through his writings. “... I'm pretty sure she is really a he.”
Hiroki could feel his heart pounding in happiness. Did Akihiko really like him? Did his feelings finally reach the man after so long? He shifted a little. “So why don't you just tell him?”
“I don't want to ruin our friendship.”
“Maybe it won't, maybe... maybe it will make things better, you know?”
Akihiko snorted. “There's no way...”
“Maybe this person feels the same way.”
Akihiko sighed. “I wish...”
Hiroki frowned. Why wasn't he confessing yet? He expected a love declaration any time now. He was growing impatient and sour. He gritted his teeth. “Well, why don't you ask him?”
Akihiko made a small laugh, then glanced at Hiroki. “I couldn't... he's way too clueless.”
He felt an odd stabbing sensation in his chest. “Who are we talking about anyways?”
Akihiko looked back at the sky wistfully. “Takahiro.”
And just like that, his heart crumbled. This whole time, they had been talking about Akihiko's little friend, Takahiro? Sure he was friends with Takahiro too... but really? Takahiro was the guy in Akihiko's heart? Hiroki bit his lip for a second. What kind of cruelty was this? He had been in love with Akihiko since they were kids. They had grown up together! He had been aware of his romantic feelings for years now... and Akihiko... Akihiko had gone ahead and fallen quickly for some guy they've only known for a year! He felt Akihiko looking at him.
“Hiroki? You don't look so good.”
An escape... He laughed. “Oh? Well, I think I might be coming down with that cold virus... Ah, uhm... I should head the the nurse's room!”
“I'll walk you there.”
“NO! I mean, it's okay... I can get there myself.”
“... okay. Call me later, okay?”
“Y-Yeah, of course.”
Hiroki never stopped at the nurse's station. He went straight home. He needed to sleep this heartache off. He sighed, looking down at the floor of the train as it moved toward the station near his home. Would this heartache ever heal?
(THE END)
little does Hiroki know, that 5 years down the road, he would meet the man to mend his heart. :3
:) I'm actually happy with this one... it's much better than the last two. I like one-sided Hiroki/Usami. I do not like it as a full on pairing, but I'm sure Hiroki, once figuring out his feelings for his friend, had a hard time being the same old prickly Hiroki around him. XD
