Excerpt:Old habits were hard to break, no matter how much you wanted to go against them. Lizzie had told Nance why she did it- that thing they never spoke of publicly lest any hear.

Lizzie bought a marvelous estate, hired a personal chef, and drank fine wine, however, she still dressed plain.

"Plain is charming." Nance said carefully. "But Lizzie I can't stand to see you not indulge yourself."

"I indulge myself plenty." Lizzie reasoned.

"You indulge the human in you, Lizzie." Nance's brows shifted, fixated. "But I've noticed you haven't indulged the woman in you."

She grabbed the other woman's hand before she could retreat and dragged her out the door.

"Don't fret, Lizzie. I'm just going to bring out the sophisticated lady in you."

Lizzie scrambled the whole way but when she drew back the curtain, shyly showing herself off in a baby blue high collared dress fringed with brocade and pearls she modestly lifted her gaze and said:

"Thank you."
