[THEMES] March 2009
A mix of mostly poetry, literature, and lyrics. ♥
Chiaroscuro
(the contrast of light and dark, as we shift into spring)
1. love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself
2. a lover as faithful as guilt
3. that unnoticed & that necessary
4. you become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed
5. home is no longer a thing with walls of stone and windows of glass
6. one night I dreamt I was a butterfly
7. I’ll undo what heredity’s done to you
8. and crazy is the forecast all week
9. awkward as a wound on my bones
10. eyes I dare not meet in dreams
11. and I see your progress stretched out for miles and miles
12. blind man for a watchdog
13. prison and palace and reverberation
14. when the darkness falls under your hair, there I’ll be
15. and I breathe where you breathe
16. I’ll keep the lights out, I’ll tell you fairy tales
17. lay awake in lust and rust in the rain
18. weave, weave the sunlight in your hair
19. held in a lunar synthesis
20. a ghost in me wants to say I’m sorry
21. a heart will always go one step too far
22. lips that would kiss form prayers to broken stone
23. raining bed sheets and lover’s words
24. a vein of stars calling out my name
25. come the morning and the day winding like dreams
26. collapse into me tired with joy
27. a poet speaks with blood
28. real faith, my dear, is just a dream
29. howling at the far off sky
30. a fading memory is slowly drawn towards the wind
31. even until tomorrow and the day after that
Annotations
1. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.
2. Holly Lisle, Talyn.
[Full quote: Guilt is a good friend, isn’t it? It will stand at your back when every other friend has abandoned you, and in the face of all reason it will stay at your side, and even when you tell it, “I am moving on now,” it will say, “I shall never leave you: never.”
If only I could find a lover as faithful as guilt.]
3. Margaret Atwood, Variations on the Word Sleep.
4. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.
5. Holly Lisle, Talyn.
[Full quote: For each of us, I think, one person exists for whom we would change our whole world, though we never believe this until we discover ourselves ready to make that previously unthinkable change. Someone for whom we would leave everything we own, for whom we would travel to foreign lands and suffer foreign ways and foreign climes willingly, because when we discover that one someone, our home is no longer a thing with walls of stone and windows of glass. That one person becomes our home, and where he goes, there too is everything we value.]
6. Chuang-tzu, Chinese philosopher.
[Full quote: “One night I dreamt I was a butterfly, and now I do not know if I am a butterfly dreaming I am Chuang-tzu, or Chuang-tzu dreaming I was a butterfly.”]
