[September 8] [Gundam Seed] The Star-Stealing Girl
Title: The Star-Stealing Girl
Day/Theme: September 8th - “Twin stars”
Series: Gundam Seed
Characters: Lacus and Meer
Rating: PG
Spoilers for episode 46!
The Star-Stealing Girl
Lacus is very cold. Or is it Meer that’s cold and Lacus is the one dying? The photograph in her hands is smooth, almost slippery, and she can barely grasp it. Her fingers are numb and there are tears on her face.
She’s very cold.
It’s a miracle that she manages to lay Meer’s still body on the ground, smoothing the wrinkles from the other girl’s clothes gently, brushing pink locks of hair back from that made-up face.
Meer. Mirror.
She is looking at herself, a different self and not at all the same but still her. It makes her tired, drains her, and her tears stop. Meer is dead, another sacrifice to a world bent on destruction, another fallen star. For a long time, Lacus has wanted to save her stars, to pick them up, brush them off, and string them around her neck. Her precious people, kept safe from an imperfect galaxy.
It wouldn’t be so selfish, she thinks, to want that.
And then Kira’s hand comes to rest on her shoulder and she trembles like a candle flame about to go out. His touch is soft and gentle and much too heavy, as if he wants to make sure she hasn’t left him. Too many of his stars have dropped as well, hissing into the ocean, their flare spent.
She creases the photograph, puts it into her pocket, and tries to remember that every falling star brings a wish.
The End.
