The exhibition games ran all through the night. Touya wondered again why he had agreed to meet Shindou in the hotel bar as he watches the sky turn a rosy pink through the plate glass window.
“Touya.” Shindou slides into the seat on the other side of the table. “Did you…?”
There was a sudden loud crash, glass shattering and angry voices.
“The crows are all dead.” Ogata was drunk. Touya presses a napkin against the bloody cut on Ogata's hand.
Shindou helps Kuwabara stand again. They will have to help the man to his room, he can hardly walk.

Author’s notes:
A retelling of the short story “The Twin Stars” by Miyazawa Kenji. An English translation can be found here.
The “crows” that Ogata speaks of refers to “the three crows,” a widely recognized three-player group of strong players in a generation. Ishida Yoshio, Kato Masao and Takemiya Masaki were the real “Three Crows” of the Kitani dojo. Within this tale, Kuwabara is considered the last remaining “crow” of his generation.
There is more of course to the original short story. For my version, please go here. A warning however, the continuation portrays a yaoi relationship (AXH) and may be considered to be rated “R” YMMV though.
