[Jan. 31][Breath of Fire IV] Turnabout
Title: Turnabout
Day/Theme: Jan. 31, 2009 "parting words"
Series: Breath of Fire IV
Character/Pairing: Scias, Nina, Cray, Ryu, etc.
Rating: G
"I...I ch-changed my mind." Scias stopped suddenly in the middle of the road. Cray, Nina, Ershin, and Ryu all turned with varying amounts of speed to see what had caused the mercenary to pause.
"About what?" Nina asked curiously. It was not unusual for Scias to be apprehensive. He was better at following the orders of others than making his own decisions. Nina had watched him sitting up at night, vacillating silently from choice to choice. Speaking out for help might aid his decision, but Scias was never much for speaking in the first place.
"I'm t-turning b-b-back," he declared calmly. He seemed to be sure of this. His fingers were clenched into loose fists.
"It's Ursula, isn't it?" Ryu said knowingly.
Scias nodded, a hint of smile curled his lips.
Nina resisted the urge to sigh romantically. That was so sweet of him! She glanced at Ryu out of the corner of her blue eyes, wondering if he would do the same thing if she were to stay behind.
"Good luck," Cray nodded. He too understood the feeling.
"Th-th-thanks for everyth-thing," Scias said at last, turning his head in a small arc as he gave them one last look. He didn't know when, if ever, he would see his companions again. Perhaps when the infrastructure of the empire had been sufficiently rebuilt they could get in touch again. Cray and Nina, at least, were hard people to lose track of due to their status.
He gave one last nod of acknowledgment to Cray, and turned back the other way, walking at a swift clip back to the capital, where they had left Ursula had the gates.
"Take care!" Nina called after him on impulse.
The encouragement quickened his speed. He knew that this was the right path to follow and as he hastened onward, their parting words hung in his mind.
