[Jan. 30][Original]Funeral of a Chief of Staff

Title: Funeral of a Chief of Staff
Day/Theme: Jan. 30, 2009 "you were my genius"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: the bishop and his past acquaintances
Rating: PG

The bishop clutched his hat tightly in his hands as he gazed into the coffin. He had outlived this friend too. Unless his sons were to be counted, this was the last.

It wasn't as though he had followed the path of his father and cut himself off from human contact after a certain point in his life, but he had stopped trying to become so close to people. He would still extend a helping hand to the oppressed or the stranger, but never again would he hold the pain of seeing a man idolize him, despite his inability to help him. There would only be one Stephen. He didn't get close to the people he helped anymore.

The would never be another Nika either. He had no personal assistants. He did things on his own and took only occasional assistance from the helpers of his colleagues. He didn't want to bring innocents down into the storm of his troubles.

The cold countenance he looked over today had seen him through his worst days. Even when asked to depart to tend to his own business, he had stayed and carried on as usual, valuing the bishop (wrongfully) above his own family. There had never been a more loyal man.

And the plans he had made...they had been peerless as well.

"And there he goes," the bishop said sadly, "There goes my crutch. There goes my genius."
