[Jan. 27][The Owl and the Sparrow] How Can You Tell?
Title: How Can You Tell?
Day/Theme: Jan. 27, 2009 "no dust upon the furniture of love"
Series: The Owl and the Sparrow
Character/Pairing: Lan/the captain
Rating: PG, pre-movie
Falling back into the easy pattern of life with the captain was as comfortable and familiar as lying back on a feather-filled pillow.
Lan supposed it made her happy. Sometimes she worried that she wasn't really happy with the captain, but she was just too scared of change to do or try anything else. She wondered how to tell the difference.
The clock on the wall ticked quietly along, one beat at a time. The faint sound of children yelling outdoors as they rode bikes or played handball or engaged in some other activity out on the street, filtered through the closed windows. Lan lay on the bed and tossed her arm over her eyes to block out the intruding sunbeams. She was tired. And feeling this depressed in the middle of the day, there was really nothing for it but to sleep.
Keys clinked outside of the front door and Lan moved her arm and sat up. The door opened slowly to reveal the only other person with a key to her room. The captain smiled at her. "I missed you so much!"
"Mm, me too," she replied wearily.
