Title: Adrenaline
Day/Theme: Jan. 25, 2009 "the thrill of blood comes instantly"
Series: Original (the Continent)
Character/Pairing: Jiao-Rei, Duskany, Garland
Rating: PG-13
"...Sometimes I get the strangest ideas about you, Duskany," Jiao-Rei murmured in the general direction of the mercenary.
Duskany wasn't quite sure that the young man was speaking to him, but he decided there was little harm in thinking so. "What kind of ideas, kiddo? I wouldn't mind hearing about it."
"Um, well," the boy stammered, "That you...like killing people."
"Ha!" the shapeshifter laughed loudly, "By no means, my young friend! I hate killing. It used to make me so sick! ...I'm not joking- I'd lose my lunch right at the sight of blood! ...But as it often goes, I got, well," he quieted somewhat, "I got jaded by it all. I just don't get shocked so easily anymore."
"That doesn't explain why you go about with a smile on your face as he slash your way across the battlefield," Garland pointed out to his comrade. He would never be mistaken for one who enjoyed killing. His default expression was one of calm observation. He rarely smiled, even when having what he would describe as a good time.
"It's the adrenaline, I think," Duskany continued on, nodding to his friend in acknowledgment of this comment. "If I don't do everything possible to stay on my toes, then that's it for me. It's life or death. That guys goes down or I do. I can't not be excited."
"I guess that makes sense," Jiao-Rei conceded. When he fought, he felt much the same way. He barely even thought, moving purely out of instinct.
"It keeps me alive. That's really all I can for," Duskany grinned and shrugged.
