[Jan. 13][Suikoden IV] Standing on the Edge
Title: Standing on the Edge
Day/Theme: Jan. 13, 2009 "a thinking woman sleeps with monsters"
Series: Suikoden IV
Character/Pairing: Troy/Flare
Rating: PG-13
Flare could see the waves dashing against the rocks from her perch on the palace balcony. Though the home of the En Kuldes family was simple for a royal dwelling, it was still a large building growing up around the cliffs to gaze out on the sea. She wondered how much it would hurt to throw herself down and smash her body against the stones. She wondered why she hadn't tried harder to resist Troy's advances. He was beautiful, but he was cold. And he was their enemy, their captor, their conqueror...her enemy, her captor, her conqueror.
Naked the commander strode onto the balcony beside her and placed his muscular arm around her delicate shoulders. In the cool of the morning with only a thin nightgown to cover her, the princess shivered. Troy pulled her closer. She could feel his warm breath on her hair, blowing soft as a zephyr.
It was for the sake of her nation that she was doing this, the young woman told herself. If she hadn't given into him the citizens would've been treated much more harshly and the island would have been ravaged. She wasn't doing this for herself. No, of course not. Her pleasure...it was only a bittersweet side effect of this whole mess. ...If they asked her after this was all over, she'd deny she had enjoyed it at all. (But she had enjoyed it. She did love his body and what he did to hers. It was a secret she would have to take to her grave.) She leaned back a little against him and tipped back her head against his chest, looking up into his stormy gray eyes.
Troy looked down at her, turning his head slightly to the side. His mouth stayed stern as ever, but there was a softness in the bend in his eyebrows. His eyes were smiling, if only just a little. This couldn't possibly be entirely meaningless to him. There was no reason he had to hold her like this. There was no reason he had to be so kind.
"I'd never known the men of Kooluk were so polite," she remarked, looking away from Troy back to the outstretched sea. "Your mother must've taught you well."
"Thank you. Yours never had the chance to finish with you, but you taught yourself well, Princess," he replied solemnly.
