[Jan. 6][Original] Mystique

Title: Mystique
Day/Theme: Jan. 6, 2009 "I'll kiss you awake"
Series: Original
Character/Pairing: Adeodatus/Furi
Rating: G

Eyelashes fluttered across my cheek, soft, but noticeable. Like a cat's whiskers. They tickled. I resisted the urge to cough. I wasn't about to risk rudely coughing in someone's face. I opened my eyes instead. "Furi," I stated calmly.

The albino woman was leaning close to me, her pale blue eyes reflecting my own darker eyes back at me. "Adeodatus," she replied, as succinctly as I had addressed her. She looked calm as she moved away from me, sitting back on the edge of the bunk. She had probably lugged me here on her own after I had fallen onto the deck. ...I'd hit my head pretty hard. ...In front of all those people too. How embarrassing!

I sat up and rubbed my bleary eyes. I felt like I could use some more sleep, but I wasn't about to complain, considering the situation. "...So, what is it, Furi?" I inquired as my companion continued to look at me. There honestly wasn't anything that interesting about me. Nothing that should've encouraged her to look so long. Furi usually only stared for this amount of time at something she couldn't make out clearly (she had bad eyesight).

"You don't have any idea what you just missed out on," Furi smiled treacherously, in her infuriating, feminine way. Women drove me crazy, with their smiling eyes and constant mysteries. ...But I liked being crazy, I guess, because I was always following them, letting them take me in with their nonsense. I liked being crazy for Furi anyway.

"Well, I assume you're not going to tell me," I responded solemnly. I had a better chance of learning the truth if I acted uninterested than if I pestered her and acted as though the suspense was killing me.

"No, I don't think I will," she answered primly. "I was afraid you had guessed on your own, but that doesn't seem to be the case. And if I say it I'll be far too embarrassed. So I'm keeping it all to myself."

To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed. Furi wasn't the type who was easily embarrassed, so this story had to be pretty good. I held my disappointment back, not even expressing so much as a sigh. No use to get all hung up on something I'd never learn.

(Many weeks later, a mutual acquaintance tipped me off. Furi had awoken me with a kiss on the cheek.)
