[Jan. 1][Tales of Legendia] Icy Ocean
Title: Icy Ocean
Day/Theme: Jan. 1, 2009 "our breaths in winter"
Series: Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Fenimore, Thyra, William
Rating: G
It was so cold that chunks of ice were floating in the sea near their home village. Fenimore's breath floated away in little puffs, like steam from a teapot.
Thyra stumbled down the beach to her sister's side. Her mouth and nose were covered with a thick scarf, pulled up to just below her eyes, "How can you stand it out here? It's freezing!"
Fenimore rubbed her hands together to get her blood circulating faster. It was abnormally cold for this area, but she was as much fascinated as inconvenienced. She had ever seen ice in the ocean before, though she had heard how it froze so thickly further north that ships were locked in the harbors.
"Have you seen William?" Thyra continued. She turned her head slowly back and forth along the beach. It looked like they were alone on the shore.
"Actually," Fenimore smiled, "He went for a swim. I think he wants you to see how tough he is."
"In that ice?! What's he thinking?! That's not tough, that's crazy!" Thyra shouted, sending up a gasp of musty white air into the atmosphere. "William! Get out of there!"
A pale blond head popped out of the water, up near a block of ice. "Thyra!" he called, his voice not fully carrying over the distance. "Good morning!" It didn't even sound as if his teeth were chattering.
"You're no Ferines, you're a seal!" the younger sister shook her head. She didn't want to admit it, but she was impressed by his endurance to bear the chilly water and his desire to try so hard to get her attention.
William headed back toward the sand, staying partially above water this time, swinging his arms over his head in clean arcs. "Looks like he's ready for the Rite of Feriyen whenever you are, Thyra."
"A-are you kidding me? Me and William?"
He waded up through the shallows, water running down his scantily clad body. "D-do e-ei-either of -you think you c-could bring me a t-t-towel?" he asked, fighting against fiercely chattering teeth. Despite the small feat he had just accomplished, William looked rather pathetic now, with his hair plastered awkwardly to his scalp and goosebumps covering his arms and legs.
"Allow me!" Fenimore declared, "It'll give you two a chance to talk."
"Make it quick then!" Thyra snapped.
