Haruhi set a shoe-box stuffed with wires and circuit-boards on her desk. "What's that?" Kyon asked.

"A para-normal entity detector," Haruhi said. "It'll help us find aliens, time-travelers and ESPers."

"Does it actually work?" Kyon asked doubtfully.

"Allow me to demonstrate." Haruhi pressed a button, and turned the box towards herself.

It began to "ping" loudly. "See?" Haruhi said smugly. "It detects 'goddesses'!"

Kyon rolled his eyes. Yes and no, he thought to himself.

"It's also an idiot detector." Haruhi flicked a switch, and spun the box towards Kyon. It pinged again.

"Point that thing at yourself again!" Kyon demanded.
