[September 5th] [Utena] things the weather channel can't predict
Title: things the weather channel can't predict
Day/Theme: Sep. 5th/"A winter morning like any other"
Series: Utena (post-series)
Character/Pairing: Utena/Anthy

Utena shivered and tried to sink into her sweater as much as possible. The high was going to be 32 degrees, and the apartment’s busted radiator (which the landlady kept saying she’d fix) wasn’t doing her any favors. Shuffling over to the stove, she stilled her hands long enough to put a kettle of water on. Tea-drinking was still a habit, even after leaving Ohtori.
Pulling a blanket out of the closet and settling down on the faded couch, she concentrated on staying warm.
Just as the kettle’s whistle cut through the chilly air, a knock sounded at the door.

Anthy held her breath as the door opened. She was greeted with awed silence, an amused exhalation, a smile, and an easy "Himemiya. Long time no see," in that order.
Had she been in Ohtori, she would have smiled brightly back with equal grace, thrown in an “Utena-sama” and a polite bow, possibly hurried in to tend to the tea kettle she could hear whistling down the hall.
She dropped her bag inelegantly onto the floor and half-dragged Utena into a hug tight enough to leave bruises. I missed you.
The kettle rose in pitch, clamoring for its unreceived attention.

A/N: So yes, I know they use the Celcius sytem in Japan, but, um…creative license?
