[Nov. 29, 2008][Tales of Legendia] Natural Mysteries
Title: Natural Mysteries
Day/Theme: Nov. 29, 2008 "doing it for science: geeks in their natural habitat."
Series: Tales of Legendia
Character/Pairing: Will, Harriet
Rating: G
Will peered at the rare insect through his magnifying glass. Fortunately it wasn't the type of beetle that would fly away at the slightest sound. It stepped slowly over the curling green leaf. In many respects, it looked like an everyday beetle, shiny wings, antenna, six legs....but Will knew better. He was devoted to natural history and had made it his business to try and uncover every rare creature on the Legacy. He had been making excellent progress too. His travels with Senel and the others had taken him to all sorts of deep forests, wet caverns, and a wide variety of other distant shores. However, as one could never know if another rare animal or monster existed somewhere out there, Will knew his work would never truly be done.
It felt good to have an open-ended goal he could pursue across the years. Will would never be able to claim there was nothing for him to do. ...And perhaps someday Harriet too would discover a love of searching for the most unique and unusual creatures of this land and together they would could make great strides in the field of natural history! ...Well, a father could dream, couldn't he?
Will put down his magnifying glass and drew a small sketch on his notepad, marking the unique design on the beetle's back. It reminded him of a teriques. ...Maybe "teriques beetle" would be a good name for this insect...
He sniffed the air. What strange smell was that wafting by? Could the beetle be producing the scent as some sort of protection?
"Dad! Come inside! Dinner's ready!" Harriet called from inside the house.
...Well, that explained that mystery of nature.
