[Nov. 28, 2008][Suikoden III] Busy as a Bee

Title: Busy as a Bee
Day/Theme: Nov. 28, 2008 "oh! most beautiful darling."
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Yun
Rating: G

A little way beyond the shops, out among the trees were the box hives of Kiyuri's bees. Bee-keeping was helpful to the village as a way to see that their small harvests flourished as much as possible even though they were grown in the unusual circumstances of Kuput Forest. They were gentle bumblebees that went about their business with little regard for the women around them as long as they were not disturbed. Yun loved the sound of their soft, industrious buzzing. Bees were cooperative and each one worked hard. Just like the Alma Kinan, they were a society of women (well, for the most part).

Yun sat on the steps lacing up her boots. One bee was tumbled by a slight gust of wind to land on the step beside her. She peered curiously at the fat little insect. It looked soft to the touch. The bee took a few steps along the wood, getting its bearings together and then took off into the air, resuming its course. "Take care," she urged the bee.

"Thanks for your concern," it told her as it buzzed away to the flowering pomegranate tree outside Great-Auntie's house.

Yun hopped up and walked in the same direction the bee had just flown. Just like the bees, who couldn't be distracted by almost anything, Yun would stick to the path unfolding before her. Today, that included helping Great-Auntie clean out her attic. Sifting through all the old, dust-covered things, she was bound to uncover some good stories along with some useless junk.

The pomegranate tree was circled by several bumblebees that moved industriously from blossom to blossom. The bee she had spoken to earlier had alighted on the highest clump of blossoms on the tree (though this wasn't very high at all). Yun hopped up the stairs to her great-aunt's home and knocked politely on the door.

"You work hard now, little girl," the bee encouraged her.

"Of course," Yun agreed. She was looking forward to seeing what things this task would reveal.

The elderly woman, her honored head crowned in white, opened the door with a smile. "Hello Yun. You look quite eager today."

"That's because I am," she grinned.
