Excerpt:Bee recalled the accident clearly in flashes. She was walking across the street and suddenly the glow of the crosswalk light changed to flashing red. Two reckless drivers, impatient and sure she would flee as soon as she saw them, hit the gas, and just like that, her boyfriend had thrown himself in the way-- he was dead. It was a blur. All she knew was she was alive and he was dead.
One month-- it felt like years.
Everyone gave her their compassion, but she couldn't help but feel alone. She attempted suicide once, just for the sake of hearing his voice in the delirium of near death. She was too afraid of death to actively pursue it; despite what her friends said about her clumsiness, it wasn't intentional.
One night she head a rapping at her window. Being a light sleeper, she awoke quickly, then thought that she was dreaming. Climbing into her room-- from the smashed window-- was her boyfriend.
"Eddy!"
She jumped into his arms, not questioning how he had been reanimated. She had to fight to ignore the rotting stench. He was a corpse, but he was still a good guy. He was still her Eddy.
"Bee..." he moaned a charming moan.
