[Nov. 26, 2008][Tales of the Abyss] When in Daath

Title: When in Daath
Day/Theme: Nov. 26, 2008 "say hello and refuse goodbye."
Series: Tales of the Abyss
Character/Pairing: Anise, Dist, Florian
Rating: PG

"Hey, is that..." Anise burst out suddenly as she and Florian strolled down the streets of Daath, "It must be. Dist!" she called.

The white-haired scientist looked around nervously to see who had called him. When his eyes settled on Anise, he smiled cautiously.

"He looks familiar," Florian mumbled as Anise pulled him over to speak with her old acquaintance.

"Dist, how are you? I haven't seen you in a long time. Emperor Peony released you from prison, right? ...You didn't escape or anything, right?" she bubbled over with questions. Florian stood awkwardly beside her, staring at Dist's flowery collar.

The scientist was thinner than before and a touch paler than when she had last seen him. "No jailbreak this time," he answered calmly.

"You seem so...subdued," Anise frowned. "That's not the Dist I know and love!"

"I'm simply a bit worn out," Dist countered, showing a spark more energy as he resisted being pegged as somehow changed. "Prison does begin to wear on one after a while, and Jade certainly wasn't doing anything to make my life easier once I got out."

"So why did you come to Daath?"

"I'm tired and I need a break. I thought I could use a vacation." He tucked his hands into his pockets and stood slightly hunched over. "It's good to see you looking well. And Tokunaga too. I suppose I'll be going then..."

"Going?" the girl echoed, "Dist, I'm the Fon Master now and Daath is my city. When you come to Daath, you stay with me and accept my hospitality!" Anise slipped her arm around to link it with Dist's. She nodded to Florian, who did the same on Dist's other side.

"This is really unnecessary, Anise," Dist protested weakly in his high, whiny voice. "I'm just looking for a little peace and quiet on my own."

"I'll make your visit to Daath as good as a trip to a resort," Anise ignored him, "You'll have a soft bed, good food, access to our libraries, picnics on the hills, hot baths, a nice massage or two, the pleasure of my company," she rambled on, growing more and more excited as she continued.

"It'll be fun," Florian chimed in shyly, "We can play."

Dist knew that there had to be a catch. Sure, he and Anise got along well enough, but something was definitely up here. "How much will it cost me?"

Anise's eyes gleamed. "A lot."
