[Nov. 18, 2008][Suikoden III] Nightmare

Title: Nightmare
Day/Theme: Nov. 18, 2008 "rivalry of the superior and inferior"
Series: Suikoden III
Character/Pairing: Albert, Caesar
Rating: PG

"You'll never beat me," Albert said. It wasn't an opinion. You could hear the cold quality in his voice and the tiniest twitch of a smirk climbing his lips. To Albert, his innate, eternal superiority over his brother was a fact.

Caesar slammed his fist on the ground, but found the force too small to quell his rising anger. He looked at his hand and saw how small it was. A child's hand. He was weak and impotent in the face of his older brother's plots and plans.

"Come here, little brother," Albert urged. It was a dangerous command. "It's grown so late. It's time for little boys like you to go to bed."

Caesar stepped backward and stumbled as Albert approached him, looming taller and taller like the shadow of a mountain. The sky above them was darkening swiftly. There was no moon or stars to pierce its blackness.

"Why so scared? I'll take care of you, Caesar." His usually dropping eyes widened and he arched one predatory eyebrow. "I'll put you to sleep...permanently."

The young boy resisted the urge to shriek. He turned and ran over the rocky ground. This place was charred- the remnants of a scorched earth strategy. The debris made it hard for him to keep up a strong pace as he ran.

He glanced back over his shoulder to see Albert gaining on him easily. His brother wasn't even running. His size was so great that he could catch up with regular, slow steps.

Albert's hand gripped his shoulder and turned him around. He leered evilly at the small boy. Caesar screamed.

---

Caesar awoke in his bed panting and covered in sweat. He was no boy. He was a grown man. What a ridiculous nightmare! "I...I'm not afraid of Albert," he scoffed to himself, pulling his scattered nerves together. "It was only a dream. ...A stupid dream."

He would not remind himself that it was a dream he'd had before.
