Title: Slip Roads 18/31
Day/Theme: 18 Nov/rivalry of the superior and inferior
Series: Initial D/Prince of Tennis/Hikago
Character/Pairing: previous Takahashi Ryousuke/Fuji Yuuta

-------------------------
"Where's Fuji-san?" Ryousuke asked when he entered the hospital room and saw Yuuta finishing lunch. On previous occasions, he had always seen Fuji Syusuke hovering around his brother, exhorting him to take another bite or to push desserts at him.
Yuuta pushed away his tray--he had eaten three quarters of the food on it--with a grimace. "Out," he said. "Now that the police believe that the girl was not the actual driver but just a drunk passenger, searches have gone out to look for the driver. Aniki is fielding his own investigation, however. Just as well; it gets him out of my hair."
"His own investigation?" Ryousuke pushed the meal table away to the side, where the tray could be collected later.
"Yeah. Aniki has lots of contacts; and he said something about finding experts to check the car as well." He attempted to shrug, and winced in pain.
"Are you all right?"
"Yes. Change of meds, that's all. Still adjusting to them."
He was stepping down from the heavy-duty drugs to something with a moderate dosage, Ryousuke realised. That meant his condition was improving.
"You look even worse than I do," Yuuta commented when Ryousuke had sat down beside his bed. "What happened?"
Ryousuke was not sure how Yuuta had taken the role of his confessor, but he found himself relating the events of the previous night to him anyway. One thing he had learnt about Yuuta from their old relationship was how utterly non-judgmental Yuuta could be about relationship mistakes.
"You know, in another world, you and Aniki would have got along like best friends," Yuuta finally said. "It's a scary thought."
"What?" Ryousuke asked.
"This habit both of you have of orchestrating the scenes of everything you do-" Yuuta shook his head. "How did he react?"
"He said I was a piece of work and drove off. I haven't seen him; Mother said he didn't come home last night."
Yuuta patted him on the arm with his uninjured right hand. "He'll be all right. You said he had friends around here."
Ryousuke nodded. "Our old racing friends. I shouldn't have waited!" he said.
"Better late than never," Yuuta said prosaically. "Believe me, I know. The first time Aniki and I had our showdown, I think we took out my dorm room at the university residence. Aniki rushed out and had half a dozen affairs in succession. Tezuka-san had to come and beat some sense into him. Not literally, mind you--since Tezuka-san didn't think there was anything between us than Aniki having a brother complex the size of Mars--but Tezuka-san has the willpower of a piledriver."
"Tezuka-san?"
"Aniki's tennis captain in school. They've been best friends since high school, and Tezuka-san's the partner at the firm Aniki works."
"Oh." Ryousuke paused, and asked very softly. "Have you never thought about-"
"Huh?" Yuuta blinked, taken by surprise, and at the same time a blush darkened his cheeks. "Oh, that."
Ryousuke watched in fascination. He had never known Yuuta to blush, even a little, in the time that they were together.
"Well," Yuuta paused to cough, and winced at what must have been the stitches at his side pulling against his skin. "That-" he coughed again, turning redder. "Of course I have," he said, his voice only a little cracked.
Ryousuke raised his eyebrows, waiting for him to continue.
"It makes a good fantasy anyway, if you ignore the part where we're related," Yuuta said. "Aniki looks gorgeous, if you haven't noticed, and he-he's always taken care of me. When our parents got a divorce--they lied for years they were fine, you know--Aniki was the only one who knew that I blamed myself. They had stayed together just for me... anyway, he was there for me."
"Oh." Had he ever been there for Keisuke?
Yuuta made a dismissive gesture with his hand, then reached out to clasp Ryousuke's. "To cut a long story short, that was the only time I thought- well. We look so different, we could change our names and live in another country, and no one would ever guess. As I said, it makes a good fantasy."
It was surprising how similar the plan was to Keisuke's, Ryousuke thought. The sole difference was that Yuuta had called it a fantasy, while Keisuke persisted in thinking that they could do it. As the scenario unfolded in his head, Ryousuke also thought that that was the longest he had ever heard Yuuta expand on it.
Then again, given the topic, there were few people who would be able to listen to everything Yuuta had said without condemnation. "But you didn't-"
"It would have been a lie," Yuuta said. "We're brothers, and nothing will change that. Aniki gets that too. But he can't help coming back to poke at the idea. He needs to fall in love--with another person." He made a face. "Though I'd probably get just as jealous as your Keisuke did."
Somehow, Ryousuke couldn't imagine Yuuta behaving like Keisuke. "Then you need to fall in love too," he teased.
"Uh-huh," Yuuta said. His eyes flickered towards the door for a second, and before Ryousuke could look too, Yuuta have given him a sharp tug, and he would have fallen against Yuuta if he hadn't stretched out an arm to brace himself before he flattened Yuuta.
Their faces ended up being inches from each other. Which was, by chance or planning (most likely the latter), the best position for Yuuta to kiss Ryousuke.
Ryousuke had not kissed anyone for a long time--since he came back from Tokyo, in fact. He remembered Yuuta's kisses: firm, without any teasing, just the movement of lips and tongue, uncomplicated and passionate. He moaned.
"Yuuta!"
"Aniki!"
He broke off the kiss and stared into Yuuta's eyes, which were alight with mischief and apology. Too late, he remembered whose brother Yuuta was. He turned his head and saw Fuji Syusuke glaring at him, outraged enough to spit fire, and also Keisuke, who looked as though his world had collapsed.
