[Sept 5] [A winter morning just like any other] [Naruto]
Title: Necessities
Day/Theme: Sept. 5/A winter morning just like any other
Series: Naruto
Character: Team 8, Kurenai pov
Rating: G
Winter created a need for the barest of necessities. It reminded one of the things that were essential to living: food, shelter, warmth. Kurenai liked the practicality of it. At one point in her life, she felt there was little need for anything else.
The following year she was assigned three genin and a dog.
"Aaaah! Shino, you unstrap Akamaru from that sled right now or else I'm gonna smash your face in!!"
"Mush," was all Shino replied with.
"That does it!"
"Anou... Kiba-kun... Shino-kun..."
The snowballs sometimes seemed to come out of nowhere; Kurenai often wondered if they were made in advance and stored for the perfect opportunity. There would be offense, defense, stealth, laughter, banter and bonding. And always, there would be a vending machine and hot drinks after truces were settled. It was in the moments like those, as their red cheeks and noses sought the heat of soups and teas, that Kurenai found her new necessities for living: smiles, loyalty, and friendship.
She could swear there was little need for anything else.

I like writing Kurenai as an intelligent cynic who's lost touch with the simpler pleasures/joys of liiving as a result of dedicating herself to a career. Team 8, however, becomes one of the influences in her life that reminds her otherwise.
It's personally hard for me to write Shino, but the mental image of seeing him sitting on a sled that has Akamaru in the front and saying, "Mush" in the most boring, even tone made me crack up. I wouldn't be able to tell how serious he was in a situation like that. XD
