[Nov. 16, 2008][Record of Lodoss War] Comforter
Title: Comforter
Day/Theme: Nov. 16, 2008 "misunderstandings stemming from contrasting courting styles."
Series: Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch
Character/Pairing: Etoh/Fianna
Rating: PG
Etoh fit in nicely in the castle of Queen Fianna. He had been granted the honor of presiding over the funeral of the late king, cementing his future as an honored member of the Pharis priesthood in Valis. On his own he accepted the honor of saying the funerals of a good many other men who had fallen in the last battle. And though Fianna never asked him, Etoh stepped up to meet the unspoken need of the new queen- comfort in the face of her father's death.
"I'm not ready to be queen. It's too soon. I always thought I had longer than this. I always thought he would never die." Fianna sat in the window seat, staring out at the spires of the capital.
"Thought it came as a surprise to you, I have to disagree about your ability to rule. You're a strong person. You're well-educated and popular with your subjects," Etoh assured her. "You'll lead Valis down a path of peace and I know you'll be successful."
"Not on my own," the queen murmured, shaking her head sadly. I can't do it on my own."
"Well, it's not like you won't have councillors and assistants," the priest continued cheerfully. He had brought a smile back to Parn's face in his darkest hours and he was sure that he could do the same for Fianna. Pharis would guide him to say the right thing. "I'll be with you," he added, sounding strong and secure to the fragile queen's ears.
Who needed a knight to protect her? She had knights enough already. And Etoh was so sweet and trustworthy... "Oh, thank you, Etoh!" Fianna cried and leapt up to hug him.
He stumbled backwards, surprised by the sudden rush of emotion. But after his heart started beating again, he looked down at Fianna with care in his eyes and hugged her back.
