[November 14th, 2008] [Ookiku Furikabutte] A lesson in communication.
Title: A lesson in communication.
Day/Theme: November 14th. "miniature bridges, your mouth."
Series: Ookiku Furikabutte.
Character/Pairing: Oda, Kanou, Mihoshi.
Rating: G.
When you first meet him, Kanou stares at you defiantly with deep dark eyes and a frown. You greet everyone in the baseball team with cheerfulness and they all seem to be wary of you, the newcomer. You should've expected this, of course--they weren't expecting a student to transfer and immediately join the club so late in the season--but you're glad you got the scholarship and you plan to make the best of it.
"I'm Oda Hiroyuki, pleased to meet you. Let's work hard together."
The coach nods at you, satisfied, and everyone starts breaking the lines and chattering. You take this as a chance to make your move and get close to the ice prince standing in the middle of the room. He looks you up and down coolly once you approach and you give him your best grin, trying to pretend his attitude doesn't affect you in the least.
"Kanou-kun, nice to meet you," you say, bowing, and he hesitates a couple of seconds before bowing his head slightly in response and you see an opening, the opportunity to create a tiny bridge, a connection.
Your mouth keeps running off on its own and you won't even remember what you said to keep the conversation going a few minutes from now; but later, when everyone is saying goodbye to their teammates, you'll consider yourself lucky for talking with a straight face to the only person on the team everyone else seems to avoid talking directly to. You'll also wonder why the rest of the guys (geeze, even the coach) acts as if they were stepping on glass around him.
You'll decide then that you wouldn't mind at all to find out.
