You told me you would sleep on it before you went away.

The next thing I knew, you were gone...disappeared into the mountains without a trace.

For several years, I waited...hoping that you'd come back and explain why you made that decision.

But then, I lost my home, and I had to find a place to hide until things blew over.

That's when I found you again. You were just as cheerful as the day I last saw you.

I ask myself, "How can you still smile at a time like this, when everything around us is falling apart?"

And then, as I hold on to you, I hear you whisper, "I don't know...I just have this feeling."

When you say it like that, it sounds almost too easy. Still, I can't be mad at you forever. You did give my friends and I food and shelter these last couple of days. And best of all, I finally found the courage to tell you how I've felt about you all these years. I probably jumped the gun a little bit when I asked you to kiss me before I went to bed, but I figure that if I'm going to die, I want to be able to leave this world without regrets.

"I'm sorry for making you worry like that. I promise I won't do anything like this ever again."

I'm going to hold you to that promise, Mai, no matter what it takes.
