[November 5th] [Sonic the Hedgehog] Not Allowed

Title: Not Allowed
Day/Theme: November 5th/ but not without considerable regret.
Series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Character/Pairing: Sonic/Amy, Shadow, Tails
Rating: Mature
Notes: A hinted mature theme. Slight inspiration from Copeland’s song ‘Not Allowed,’ which I think is a song that could fit Sonic’s life. And lastly, this takes after an insert from the Sonic Adventure 2 Japanese strategy guide- to the response of the translator's to reactions to it, and what they felt 'fragment' might have really meant due to fans taking it the wrong way.

Careful I may fall apart for you now, make you cry

He’d been sitting beside her for what seemed to be forever to him, his constant need for speed making the time he sat there almost agonizing.

Yet, he stayed beside her on the edge of her bed observing as he thought more then he usually ever desired to.

Sonic reached a tentative hand to the side of Amy’s head and softly caressed her face, wondering when she’d knocked down his defenses and caused him to stay still for more then a few minutes. He supposed, some of it came with age as most things do, but it seemed when it came to sense both of them were lacking.

Who in their right mind would chase after someone who left them in the dust like he did for over a decade? What sense was there in that? Yet, Amy had never relented and slowly, he had responded to her observations and wise words in kind.

It’s not that the point where they were now had become too much for him, it was just that he had hit a devastating personal roadblock. Robotnik had never been the only evil in the universe he had to face, but he’d slowly come to his own personal (and moreso, visible) realizations that had caused a grinding halt to his stable reality.

He wasn’t aging.

Of course, it could simply be brushed off that he was still only 27 years old and that he was comparing himself to a 22 year old and the other younger members of their group, but he knew that was a small comfort for what he‘d been sensing for quite some time now.

Shadow had been the one that caused Tails (and himself) to look into the issue at hand.

At first, he didn’t understand just what it was Tails had been up to when he’d started building unusual machines using parameters and guidelines Shadow had come up with. Nor did he catch on when Tails used these machines on Sonic himself, but slowly, the realization had clicked.

It still hadn’t given any answers though, so he had simply ignored it until that moment.

Shadow shoved him into a chair roughly as Tails skittered in front of his computer, looking over some numbers and graphs Sonic didn’t honestly care about, nor could he honestly understand. Sonic couldn’t help but feel annoyed at the black hedgehog’s sudden appearance and abduction of his person, but he knew there had to have been a reason despite not appreciating it.

Shadow simply stood and crossed his arms with his usual contemplative expression, “Are you about done?”

Tails pulled out a long printed sheet of paper and brought it over to the irritated older hedgehog, “Here.” He handed it over, wanting to be rid of it as if it burned him. The fox was completely ruffled.

Sonic shifted himself so that his arms and legs were crossed as he sat, “What is this about?”

Tails looked anywhere but him as he rubbed behind an ear, “Well, you know how I’ve been performing tests on you and all… It was because Shadow brought me a disk that had some unusual and highly cryptic data on it.”

The blue hedgehog blankly nodded, wondering just what all of that had to do with him.

Shadow interrupted Tails’ little speech after looking over the results, “It seems you’re the missing fragment, just as I’d started to suspect years ago when Rouge handed me that data disk with Gerald’s journal within it.”

Sonic blinked, “Fragment? Just what are you-”

“It seems the one who was the faker was not I, but
you. Simply put, you’re a copy of myself, just with a few tweaks and with a greater conscience then I due to the programming that went on in our separate creation’s caused by circumstance.”

Sonic stared at him blankly, “Say what?”

Tails sighed, “You’re just like Shadow, Sonic. You’re an Ultimate Lifeform.”

He was the fastest hedgehog around, yet, the fact his speed might not be a natural gift, but synthetic, fake… He could not handle that sort of blow.

He ran for 4 days straight before he returned to get clearer answers and read the journal entry that had lead to this discovery about his person, along with all of the other data Rouge and Shadow have managed to scrounge up over the years.

Sonic honestly couldn’t understand why certain things happened to him. Some were good, some were bad, but this sort of thing had come at simply the worst time ever. Did saving the world amount to nothing?

He knew Amy wasn’t aware of it, but he had become acutely aware of the workings of chaos energy as the years progressed. It was because of this he knew, more then knew, that the decision he was making at this moment was going to be the worst thing he would ever and could ever do.

He was a hero, but he was taking a coward’s way out before anyone would really even realize just what was going on.

He hated himself for it.

So, it was with considerable regret that he finally stood, slowly stretching himself out before walking slowly out of Amy’s home. He took in all the sights and smells of the place he had also come to think of as ‘home’ lately, and closed the door behind him.

He knew she was going to kill him when he finally came back, and he also knew everyone would be angry with him. Sonic couldn’t believe it himself, but this was the decision he had come to.

He was going to disappear.

Of course he would come back just in time, as he always did in the days past and now, because nothing would hurt more then Amy crying over his personal failure to live up to her and the others’ undying belief in him. Not even being hit multiple times with her steel-enforced hammer would be as painful as her crying over him and his stupidity.

He took a step as the wind caressed him briefly.

He was always compared to the wind, abrupt in its coming and going.

Sonic supposed that was his curse, as he left everything he had built for himself the past decade behind.

Amy really was going to kick his butt for this one. That one thing was for certain.
