[November 4th] [Detective Conan] Breaking Routine with Ponderings
Title: Breaking Routine with Ponderings
Day/Theme: November 4th/competence as a compensation for loneliness (how can i possibly be lonely?)
Series: Detective Conan
Character/Pairing: Ayumi, Conan, Ai, Mitsuhiko, Genta
Rating: G
She pushed a clump of her crimson hair behind an ear as she looked away from her test to stare at the back of her crush. He was, in her opinion, the smartest of their group not simply based on his vast knowledge and deduction ability, but because of the way he dealt with all of them as people and not just kids. It was because of how he interacted with them that even she could see what his sharp wit and deductive prowess seemed to somehow miss a great deal of the time.
He was lonely.
Ayumi knew this down to the very core of her heart just as much as she knew she loved Edogawa Conan. It was as obvious as day to her. Yet, Mitsuhiko and Genta seemed to completely miss it while interacting with him. Of course, Conan had always been a lot like a grown-up to them, so she supposed that could have been why they could easily brush it off.
Though, while Genta could be rather thick-headed, Mitsuhiko on the other hand… well, he seemed to be rather interested in Ai-chan then anyone else.
As much as Ai-chan could hide her feelings and confuse them, it was incredibly obvious she was lonely.
That was why Conan-kun interested her more sometimes. He was almost always calculating something, even when he seemed bored to death in class.
Well, maybe not that much.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the day and the moment of release for the children who were more then ready to leave the learning facility.
After turning in her paper, she gathered her things and followed the Detective Boys out to their usual shoe cubbies and simply went through the motions of changing shoes and gathering items.
Conan really did seem lonely today.
Ayumi couldn’t understand it, how even though it was bright and sunny someone could be so sad.
She decided to stay back and observe today. It was unusual for her, but she did take the time to simply observe her small group of friends, and they simply let her be to her wanderings.
It was only because of Conan-kun that the two boys would leave her alone on these days, learning that the shorter of the three tended to be and was right about that sort of thing.
Ai suddenly appeared beside her, smirking in an unusually knowing way, “If you have something to say to him, you should really get it off your chest.”
Ayumi blinked surprised, “I-! Uh…” she smiled, “Right!”
She shuffled ahead and quietly came up beside Conan-kun, staying silent while walking beside him, noticing how distracted he was and how distant his replies were when the boys said something to him. She was suddenly nervous, but she really did want to find out what was wrong.
He sighed, “What is it now, Haibara?”
She kept herself from giggling at somehow managing to trick him, allowing herself only a small smile as she grasped his hand lightly, “Conan-kun.”
He started, looking at her surprised and sort of like he really, really wished she wasn’t holding his hand. “Ayumi-chan!”
She looked at him shyly, yet seriously and with sincerity, “Conan-kun… are you lonely?”
He blinked, “Lonely? What do you… how could I possibly be lonely? I have you and the Detective Boys, Agasa-hakase, Ran-neechan-”
Ayumi shook her head and cut him off, “I know, but that’s not what I mean! You just…” she let go of his hand and cupped hers in front of her chest blushing lightly as she looked at the ground, “It’s just… you seem really, really lonely even though we’re all here. You have been for a long time.”
Mitsuhiko turned with a raised eyebrow, “He’s probably just sad we haven’t gotten a case in a while.”
Conan huffed with a bored expression on his face, “That sort of bothers Kogoro Ojii-chan more then me.”
The kids nodded and hummed in agreement, but it still didn’t change the fact for Ayumi that Conan-kun was lonely. She let the subject drop and moved forward to her regular place behind Mitsuhiko and Genta.
It still didn’t change the facts, and she somehow knew, it was the sort of loneliness that came from love.
