He talks with plants.
He wasn’t sure how long he had been sitting there in silence, staring at the plant that had taken residence in his workshop and slowly grew from a seed into a small stem of leaves and buds. There were many days where he would stop what he was working on and seek comfort from that plant, the remnants of the girl who had captured his heart and had died for them all. Some days, like today, the silence wasn’t all-encompassing as the light sound of water drizzling could be heard and the soft far-away sound of Amy’s singing reverberated softly through the metal and dirt walls of his workshop. He doesn’t remember when Amy decided to plant him a garden, but he supposed it was her way of making sure there was a reason she would have to come to check on him.
Amy could sometimes be strange like that.
He stood up from his seat moving close to the plant and softly stroked a leaf, feeling its velvety texture that was very unlike any of the plants on their planet. Cosmo had the same feel, he recalled, and she was no regular plant herself.
“Lately… you make me feel needed and important.” his words echoed through his workshop, making his words feel both full and empty. It hurt to love this plant so much, yet it also healed him. It was very much like a rose and its thorns to his heart.
“Well, of course you are, Tails.”
The fox jumped and turned to the pink hedgehog that had decided to check in on him at simply, the wrong moment. He blushed, “A-Amy…” he rubbed the back of his head abashed that he’d been caught talking to foliage.
Though, his initial shock was moreso due to him believing Cosmo was the one who had replied and not Amy.
The girl watched the younger fox for a moment before she padded over and hugged him, “She would be happy, knowing that one of her seeds gave you such comfort.”
Tails nodded, smiling despite the burn in his eyes and the threat of tears. “Yeah… I think she would be happy too.”
