[Nov. 2, 2008][Suikoden II] A Craze for Cooking Contests
Title: A Craze for Cooking Contests
Day/Theme: Nov. 2, 2008 "Hidden and open subcultures"
Series: Suikoden II
Character/Pairing: Sasarai, Fitcher, Nika, Nanami, etc.
Rating: G
"Apparently, all the cooking challenges held at the lakeside castle in Dunan led to a bit of a cooking craze," Nika explained to the bishop.
"I still don't see why I should have to act as a guest judge..." Sasarai mumbled, taking his seat at the judging table alongside Fitcher, Hauser, and Dr. Huan's apprentice, Tuta. Sasarai eyed the new mayor of Muse cautiously. Fitcher had a bit of a reputation as a sly, slippery character, not that it made any difference in this context. "Is it really safe to let some strange chef feed a mystery meal to this many leaders at once?" Sasarai inquired nervously.
Nika held back a sigh at her boss' many complaints. He was obviously not cut out for this. "This is Jowston, not Harmonia," she remarked, "The leaders here must trust their citizens not to poison them a good deal more than you seem to." She pushed in his chair a tad further, then left to take her seat in the stands.
"I'm holding you partially accountable if I get sick," he muttered as she left.
"Lighten up, Bishop," Fitcher nudged him jovially, "I know it may seem a little odd, but it's a free meal! And usually a pretty good one at that!"
"What kind of strange people want to participate in this kind of event?"
"Well, Fu Tan Chen for one," Tuta laughed as the well-dressed announcer entered center stage to a burst of applause.
"Our challenger today is the famed home-cooking lady in pink herself- Nanami!" The young woman who entered from the other side dragged her brother behind her, forcing him to serve as her assistant. They were both known to everyone in the republic and were greeted with loud cheers and applause from the stands. The response at the judging table was considerably more subdued. Tuta's smiled had grown thin and wobbly. Fitcher's face was pale.
"Wh-what's wrong?" Sasarai pressed the mayor. He did not like that look.
"N-Nanami..." he gasped. He shook his head, as though pulling himself out of a thick daze. Fitcher looked a the visiting bishop apologetically. "Well, uh, since it's Nanami, everything I told you about the contest is probably wrong."
"Oh!" Sasarai blinked.
