Excerpt:
The young king didn't like Nietzsche. The man was no fun, grumbling sense while Richard weaved compositions. Really, the older man seemed to tear seams in the tapestry fantasies Wagner wrote.
The least of his annoyance was when Nietzsche chastised Ludwig- pushing him back to his office where leaning towers of papers awaited. Still, the room was hardly a prison with the stack of records containing snippets of Wagner's Opera (they were too long to be recorded whole).
But now, the two men were gone. Die Ring des Nibelhelm played on record but it couldn't compare to the composer himself treading the halls of his castle. During political matters, rather than listening he imagined Wagner push through the double doors and carry him away from a position he hated.
Eventually he hoped for Nietzsche too, the closest to Wagner he could get.
But neither came, only letters. In his heartbreak Ludwig constructed castles, convinced that the day the two men returned they would retreat in Wagner's Operas.
