This is a short fic set at around the time that Emmett and Rosalie first became more than friends in their vampire lives.

“You can’t hide from me forever,” Emmett said in his usual playful voice, with just a touch of seriousness as he approached Rosalie in the section of the forest near the Cullen residence that she thought no one knew was her hiding spot.

“You don’t understand,” she replied. How could he? How could anyone who had never been though what she had, who had been fortunate enough not to have experienced such inexplicable terror and such immeasurable pain.

Emmett knelt down beside Rosalie. He slowly reached out towards her, not wanting to frighten her away.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” he promised, resting his strong hand against her delicate cheek. The last time that a man had touched her it had not been consensual. His hands had touched her in hate, in violence, in power. They had left her beaten and violated, her body and soul utterly destroyed. Here she was in a new life with all of the power that she could ever want and yet he still held this over her.

“You have no idea how utterly beautiful you are, do you?” Emmett asked her. He didn’t understand that it wasn’t about how she looked, but how she felt; beaten, broken, destroyed. Yet when she allowed herself to look deep into Emmett’s dark, yet gentle, eyes the pain managed to subside for a moment, replaced by desires that she never thought she could feel again.

“Kiss me,” she found herself saying. Rosalie closed her eyes as Emmett’s hands cradled her face. This time she did not feel afraid. She felt empowered and more alive than she had ever felt. “Don’t ever let me go.”
