The thing about the things you want is that even when you get them, you'll never stop wanting more.

It is not in her nature to want the impossible. Being practical now will save her from trouble later, and she's made a science out of evasion, and she'd like to believe that she's got enough self-control in her to quash any hope rising in her chest and bubbling to the surface in true smiles and an uplifted chin, squarer shoulders and easier lope.

The truth of the matter is, though, that she likes how that hope feels on her, how it seems to settle on the world like an iridescent blanket of gold and makes everything seem extraordinary.

It feels like falling. It feels like flight.

And for that alone, she will let herself wish for the impossible.
